So, with
Great Wyrms still on my mind, I have decided to read "
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" next.
I like to stick with the theme and I think this one offers some good Feng Shui.
I read somewhere that, with the advent of the
Kindle, there has been a rise in the number of low brow, 'pulp fiction', style books being bought. With a kindle no one needs to know what you are reading (unless you paste the information all over the kitchen walls).
In the olde days, the world was full of people who wanted to read the
Da Vinci Code, but were too embarrassed to be seen with it on the train, so they read
Focault's Pendulum instead.
Nowadays, when you see someone with an eReader, they could be engrossed in
anything from
Principia Mathematica to
Mrs Stevens Hears The Mermaids Singing.
I have been dimly aware of the girl with the dragon tattoo, for some time. I had it marked down as chick lit (mainly, I think, because of the cover art) but a number of friends have raved about it, claiming it has great character development and multiple layers. And now it's a film.
So, anyway, I thought I'd give it a go.
I'm about a third of the way through and generally enjoying it - although I can't say I really see what all the fuss is about. Still, it's nice to read a crime novel for a change.

Hmmm - a third of the way through is where I quit.
I just purchased a book by Martin Walker, a crime novel that you might like. I haven't read it, so can only offer the following facts
It is called "Bruno, Chief of Police" - a name that may have echoed around the castle during games of Citadels?
Martin Walker sounds a bit like Martin Wallace
There is a lot of cheese in the book apparently.
I made it to the end, but didn't read the sequels. It was OK, but the final act was too rich for my palate.
Chris - you sure that it's not the Bruno DVD?
Iain - that does not bode well. I guess I will push on and see....
Read all three and enjoyed them, the story gets better through the trilogy with the first one setting up the characters.
Currently reading UnLunDun by China Meville. A very odd book that reminds me of Neverwhere meets Alice in wonderland.
I shall persevere and report back...
