It's a Wonderful Life

It's the beginning of a New Year and time for TV presenters, everywhere, to compile lists of the best and worst of 2011 - and for geeks, across the land, to do likewise.

I am not going to over analyse my stats for the year partly because I had too much to drink last night but mainly because I'm not sure it really achieves anything.
I do note with interest that I have a lot more games, with multiple plays, this year - which is something I set out to do - and that I managed to fit in a lot more meaty sessions of War of the Ring and Twilight Struggle.
All in all a satisfying result.

If 2010 was Dominion's year, in terms of number of times played, then 2011 saw the explosion of 7 Wonders onto the scene. The popularity of this 'build your own civilisation in 30 minutes' gem seems set to continue with the appearance of the 7 Wonders: Leaders Expansion at the kitchen table.

In fact I played the game four time today (twice with the expansion), so it's already on my most played list for 2012. Funnily enough I kept drawing Olympia as my 'wonder' - a reflection on the fact that the Olympics are coming to Gormenghast (and the outer kingdoms) this Summer ?

So, all that's left for me to do is to formulate some resolutions to break in the coming year.
I have a few ideas but I'll leave that for another post, when I've had a chance to review how I did on last year's batch, so that I can set realistic expectations for the next 12 months.

Probably the most interesting statistic of 2011, though, is that I managed 227 posts. A new record in these parts. I may need to slow down before I burn out.

7 Wonders was a game I was prepared to dislike for all the comparisons I had read to Fairy Tale. I was very impressed - a good fun game.

I really like the extra depth that Leaders brings to it too.
It seems to jumble it all up again and put a new emphasis on money.
